Modern French restaurant

Was a pretty disappointing experience. Went with a party of 12 for a birthday party, and found the entree of the set menu terrible, there needs to be more detail as the dish I chose had eggplant, and it didn't say anywhere that it had eggplant. The main was amazing, perfect, yet it was a shame the service was sad... missed a heap of drinks that was ordered, yet there was a lot of staff hanging around the bar. Definitely not worth the 105 per person.

A modern French restaurant that didn't quite hit the mark with dessert and ambience.Highly recommend the oysters appetiser and pate entrée. Delicious, subtle flavours and clean presentation. Steak was cooked on point.Unfortunately, on the night we visited the restaurant there was a very large and rowdy table behind us which destroyed the romantic ambience we expected from a quaint French restaurant. We could see it made many of the other patrons (including ourselves) quite uncomfortable. We could no longer converse and so we resorted to staring blankly at each other and shaking our heads. A word from management to the group may have helped the situation.The soufflé dessert, for me, was completely inedible. The passionfruit soufflé was so tart, even after pouring all the syrup on top I could not eat more than two bites. Comparable sourness to eating a lemon - it made me quite sick that I had to discard most of the dessert.Sadly, not a restaurant I would visit again. For the price, I was expecting more.

This is an amazing and a very affordable restaurant.The food is perfect - freshness, presentation, taste, portion size.It is made professionally and with love.The place is quiet with good acoustics.Its is easy to talk to other people even if you have a big party.

Really superb lunch at Le Coq in Balmain. The food was outstanding - and interestingly you can see the “healthy” side of their cooking, despite it still feeling very French. The duck was a standout dish. The service was also excellent. Admittedly, we were a bit of a pain to the staff, wheeling two baby prams into the restaurant, but the staff were incredibly hospitable helping to re-arrange chairs and tables to accomodate us. You can’t imagine what small kind acts like this can mean to exhausted parents who just want to enjoy lunch outside. I highly recommend Le Coq, and look forward to returning soon.

Underwhelmed. The waitress was a sweetheart but bless her she knew little about the menu. The glass of wine we ordered was off & had to be sent back, the Duck leg was overcooked & if I hadn’t ordered the side of Broccolini, the 3 little carrots with the duck leg would not have been enough. The seafood soup had nice seafood however the broth was inedible. Obviously the Chef did not taste the broth he/she was serving.Over all we felt it was overpriced, mediocre food & we won’t be returning.Sorry guys but it’s a 2/5 Stars from us.

The chef must have been deported because they cannot cook urghh. Small portions need 6 courses to get full, overpriced for the portion size, they serve everything fast to either get rid of you or to sell you more. Having been to France and really enjoyed the food these bastions ruin it I Perth

We enjoyed a fantastic weekday lunch with very attentive service in a pleasant and open setting! Having spent considerable time in France and Paris we were excited to try this restaurant. The food didn’t disappoint, we shared between two the 1/2 roast provincial chicken, side dish of roast potatoes and the peas and lettuce. We had a 1/2 carafe of a beautiful tasting French Rose and for desert enjoyed the chocolate fondant with ice cream. Overall a very enjoyable lunch, special mention to the young man serving us who was very helpful. We will definitely be returning.x

Great food and service!But on a cold Melbourne day it would have been good to install a self-closing" back door

La Bastide offer an extensive wine list and sommelier is on hand to assist if you have any questions. Duck was cooked beautifully but unfortunately the chocolate fondant was a tad overcooked.

Awful experience. Unapologetic owner.Context: Went on ANZAC day (understandably a busy day). There were two specials available at 12:30pm when we ordered - beef cheeks and lamb shanks.3 reasons for the reivew:1. After waiting 60 minutes for everyone's food, the lamb shank special had not arrived. We ask and they say it's on the way soon. Another 30 minutes - 90 minutes total - and we ask again. They say they printed out the docket but did not fulfill our order, so we have to re-order the lamb shanks. The waiter finally brings the lamb shanks" - confirmed by the waiter - but it is the wrong dish.2. After informing the staff of the wrong dish
